Minnesota Trout Unlimited is the leading voice, and YOUR VOICE, advocating for coldwater fisheries in Minnesota and the region.

We are the unified voice of TU chapters and members in Minnesota, but speak out on behalf of all anglers and fans of clean water.  We advocate effectively in St. Paul and statewide countering threats posed by:

• Silica sand mining
• Asian carp & AIS in Lake Superior and statewide
• Poplar River water withdrawals
• Polluted runoff from agricultural, forestry and urban land practices
• Conversion of the North Shore Trail to ATV use
• Sulfide mining
• Attempts to undermine wild steelhead recovery
• Numerous other activities

Minnesota TU also works hard to secure significant funding for Minnesota chapters and partners to carry out habitat restoration and enhancement projects across the State.  We have been very effective.  MNTU also provides management assistance and oversight to TU chapters to help get projects completed.  More than 19 miles of trout habitat has already been improved on a dozen streams and rivers utilizing “Lessard” (Outdoor Heritage Fund) and other leveraged dollars.

Every dollar of Lessard project grants go to reimbursing the direct costs of improving in-stream and riparian habitat.  So while MNTU has expended great amounts of time and effort to secure these habitat grants, we receive no funding for the enormous effort needed to do so effectively.  Instead we depend on you – members and non-members – to support our grant writing efforts, as well as our critical advocacy efforts.

Effective coldwater conservation in Minnesota will not happen without your direct support to MNTU.  MNTU receives less than $6,000 annually from TU membership dues of all Minnesota members, and no money from TU’s national fundraising campaigns.  Please join the TU family and generously support TU’s national efforts.  However, a separate, direct donation to Minnesota TU is needed to ensure effective protection, restoration and sustainability of your local trout fisheries.

Of course non-member donations are always welcome and needed.
