Minnesota Trout Unlimited is the leading voice, and YOUR VOICE, advocating for coldwater fisheries and watersheds in Minnesota and the region.

We urgently need your financial support to keep us working effectively for you, your family and your fishing pals.  We receive nothing from TU’s national fundraising campaigns and instead depend entirely upon your direct donations to Minnesota TU.   Our trout fisheries face threats daily.  With your support Minnesota TU will be there providing the strong advocacy work needed to counter these threats.  Keep us working for you – simply click the DONATE NOW button on this page.

Minnesota Trout Unlimited (the Minnesota Council of TU) is the unified voice of TU chapters and members across Minnesota.  Often we are also the only voice speaking out on behalf of all trout and steelhead anglers, non-members and members alike.  We advocate effectively in St. Paul and statewide countering threats posed by:

  • Minnesota is blessed with diverse fisheries – Arrowhead trout lakes, northern brook trout streams, Lake Superior, North Shore rivers, central Minnesota gems (Straight, Kabekona, and many others), recovering metropolitan area streams, and the fertile spring creeks nestled in the scenic Driftless landscape in southeast Minnesota.  Minnesota TU overlooks none of them, and works to protect, restore and sustain all
  • Silica sand mining
  • Excessive or illegal water withdrawals from our aquifers and streams
  • Polluted runoff from poor agricultural, forestry and urban land use practices
  • Aquatic invasive species and Asian carp – in Lake Superior and statewide
  • Conversion of the North Shore Trail to ATV use
  • Sulfide mining
  • Attempts to undermine wild steelhead recovery
  • Numerous other short-sighted policies and activities

MNTU also works hard to secure substantial funding for our chapters and partners to restoration and enhance trout and steelhead habitat around the State.  We have been very effective.  MNTU also provides essential management assistance and oversight to chapters to help get these projects completed.  In just the past three years, 22 projects and more than 20 miles of trout habitat have been improved on Minnesota streams and rivers utilizing funding from the Outdoor Heritage Fund and other sources.

Every dollar of Outdoor Heritage Fund grant money goes to reimbursing the direct costs of constructing these habitat projects.  So while MNTU expends great amounts of time, effort and resources to plan and secure funding for habitat work, we receive no state funding for these vital planning and fundraising efforts.   We depend upon you – members and non-members – to provide the “seed money” needed to secure habitat grants.  Become a vital partner in this habitat work by supporting Minnesota Trout Unlimited’s work securing construction funding.

There are numerous ways in which you can help us improve and sustain your fishing opportunities in the Minnesota and the Midwest, including volunteering on projects, being active in your local TU chapter, or responding to MNTU action alerts with timely calls to policymakers.  However, effective coldwater conservation in Minnesota will not happen without your direct financial support of Minnesota TU.

Many members mistakenly believe that TU membership dues and national direct mail and other fundraising efforts fund the great work which Minnesota TU is doing.  MNTU receives less than $6,000 annually from the dues of all TU members in the state.  We receive none of the money from TU’s direct mail and other fundraising campaigns.  Instead we depend upon your direct donations to Minnesota Trout Unlimited to keep us speaking out for you in St. Paul and throughout Minnesota, and ensuring the protection, restoration and sustainability of Minnesota fisheries. Please do your part to ensure that Minnesota TU will be there, every day, working to counter the many threats to our coldwater fisheries.  Simply click on the DONATE NOW button to make a secure online donation.

All of your tax deductible donation to Minnesota Trout Unlimited will be used protecting, restoring and advocating for clean water, coldwater fisheries, and healthy watersheds in Minnesota and the region.
