Location: Hubbard County, MN

Funding: Lessard-Sams 2010

Goals: Reduce the impact of grazing cattle along the stream (erosion, animal waste, siltation, stream widening, higher water temperature).

Methods:

• Installation of a half-mile of barbed wire fence with gates along the riverbank.

• Fenced stream crossing with gravel protection for controlled cattle passage.

• Seeding of eroded banks with native grasses, shrubs and wildflowers.

Implementation: Construction began in the summer of 2010 and the planting was finished the spring of 2011

Project Contributors: Trout Unlimited, DNR Fisheries in Park Rapids, the Park Rapids NRCS office, and Jim Pierce, the landowner.
