Boundary Waters protected by federal agency decisions

John Lenczewski - MNTU Executive Director on October 17, 20162026-05-13T18:18:48+00:00
By John Lenczewski - MNTU Executive Director on October 17, 2016

The U.S. Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture today announced important steps to protect the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), which is home to Minnesota’s native inland lake trout stocks.  The agencies denied Twin Metals’ application for renewal of two hard rock mineral leases in the area and began the process of withdrawing key portions of the watershed from new federal mineral permits and leases.  Read the agency announcements and find links to the decision letters themselves, maps, etc.
